Police Academy graduates 23 from Peace Officer
Program
The Laredo Community College Regional Police Academy hosted a graduation ceremony on Thursday, December 4, to recognize 23 cadets who completed the basic peace officer training program. The traditional ceremony was held in the Kazen College Center.
The “B-03” cadets who graduated from the Academy are: Alfredo H Barrera, David Cazares, Marcos Cuellar, Alberto Escobedo, Francisco Estrada, Eduardo Fierro, Roberto Garcia Jr., Sergio C. Garcia, Juan A. Garza III, Humberto Gutierrez Jr., Jose A Hernandez, Robert Herrera, Pedro Martinez III, Rene Mejia, Louis Ochoa, Alonzo Olivarez Jr., Juan G. Perez, Ivan Pichardo, Larry Ramirez, Marcos Ramirez, Ulises Reyes, Efrain Ruiz Jr., and Rene Saldivar.
In order to be admitted to the LCC Police Academy, participating cadets were sponsored by local and regional law enforcement agencies. This included the Laredo Police Department, Webb County Constable Precinct 4, Zapata County Sheriff’s Office, Cameron County Constable Precinct 3, Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, and the Zapata County Attorney’s Office.
Three special awards were presented during the graduation ceremonies, including the Highest Scholastic Award given to Alonzo Olivarez, Jr. Robert Herrera received both the Top Gun and the Class Mentor Awards.
Master of ceremonies was Sgt. Eugenio Moncivais of the Laredo Police Department. Guest speakers were Laredo Police Department Chief Agustin Dovalina and 49th District Judge Manuel Flores.
The 18-week, 704 hour “basic” peace officer training program at LCC is comprised of rigorous physical training and study focusing on a variety of topics including the penal code, family violence, code of criminal procedures, firearms training, defensive tactics, emergency driving, patrol procedures and criminal investigating.
