Under the Coding Specialization Certificate program, students learn to perform coding techniques required in medical facilities for reimbursement from entities such as Medicaid, Medicare and private insurances. Students will be taught data collection, documentation requirements and classification systems and codes per diagnosis and treatment. They will also learn the federal regulation systems and procedures for medical reimbursements.
“The Coding Specialization Certificate offered at Laredo Community College is an affordable two-semester program which prepares graduates for entry level skill work in the field of coding,” said Moore.
The course tuition for Coding and Classification Systems is $185 plus textbooks.
Moore commented that job opportunities are plenty in the region for coding specialists in medical offices, clinics and hospitals.
“Presently, there are jobs available in all areas of the medical field for persons who are certified as medical coders.”
Moore also indicated that class space is still available for Administrative Procedures, a course within the MOA program. The class trains students to learn vital front office business skills for the medical office. Students will meet Mondays through Thursdays from 1 to 5 p.m. from January 12 to March 4 only.
