Depression
screenings set for Thursday at LCC
The Border Region Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center and the Laredo Community College Wellness program are joining a national effort to raise awareness on the illnesses of depression.
National Depression Screening Day (NDSD) is set for Thursday, October 9. At LCC, the Border Region MHMR will conduct free and private depression screenings and distribute literature on this illness from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in the Maravillo Gymnasium.
NDSD, held each year during Mental Illness Awareness Week, is designed to call attention to the illnesses of depression, manic-depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and anxiety on a national level. The observance also educates the public about the symptoms and effective treatments for these illnesses, and it is intended to connect those in need of treatment to the mental health care system in their area.
For more information about the free screenings, contact the LCC Wellness Program by calling 721-5326. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
