guitar clinic set for Nov. 13 at LCC
A Jazz Guitar Clinic featuring local music educator Ric Cortez will be hosted in the new Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center Theater on the Laredo Community College campus on Thursday, November 13.
Sponsored by the LCC Music and Dance Department, the clinic will be on Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon
LCC Guitar Instructor Cain Budds says that the jazz guitar clinic is open to all LCC student musicians who are interested in learning to enhance their jazz improvisational performance skills.
“This clinic is not restricted to guitarists only,” says Cain. “It is open to all student musicians seeking to improve their performance of jazz improvisation.”
Cortez, a guitar instructor at the VMT School of Communications and Fine Arts since 1995 and an adjunct professor of music at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, says that clinic will consist of mini performances, discussion and opportunities for students to ask questions related to jazz improvisation. He will be accompanied by a drummer and bass player during the short performances.
Cortez holds a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas in Denton. He has performed in numerous jazz festivals around the world. Many of students from the VMT School have achieved UIL state awards.
