to host Joe & Lefty Spray Can Art Oct. 6
Joseph Watson and partner, Lindsay—better known across college campuses nationwide as Joe & Lefty—showcased their unique style of spray can art at Laredo Community College on Monday, October 6.
Joe & Lefty were at LCC on October 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Kazen College Center. LCC students were able view the artists at work and walk away with a unique Joe & Lefty creation.
The two artists can crank out a 5” x 7” painting every 3 to 5 minutes. Done on poster board with a spray can, the artists use plastic bags, paper, pot lids, and a putty knife to manipulate the paint.
Joe
discovered his artistic talents after he was struck by
lightning on his New York apartment building rooftop in 1998. During rehab, he
taught himself to paint. He started practicing in Central Park and Times Square
and soon found that he was drawing large crowds and selling hundreds of
paintings.
In
February 1999, the accomplished street artist moved to Florida and continued to
pursue his career. There he met Lefty, also an artist, who quickly learned spray
can art and developed her own unique style.
Today,
Joe & Lefty are resident artists at Cafe Tu Tu
Tango in Orlando, Florida.
In 2000, they began their tour of colleges and universities affiliated with the National Association for Campus Activities and the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities.
They
are also regularly invited to participate in corporate parties, special events,
festivals, art shows, and theme parks.
They
were commissioned by Kraft to paint at Donald Trump's Mara Largo Estates and
were featured in the grand reopening of the Six Flags Theme Park in Houston.
