New
students sought for LCC occupational therapy assistant program
Laredo Community College is seeking new students to enter the Occupational Therapy Assistant program in January 2004.
Applications are now available for prospective students to be considered for spring 2004 admission to the two-year OTA program at LCC. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2003, said Program Coordinator Terri Gonzalez.
“This is a great opportunity for persons seeking to work in a rewarding healthcare profession,” said Gonzalez. “OTA involves rehab treatment for people of all ages who, because of physical, developmental, social or emotional problems, need specialized assistance to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives.”
She added that OTAs also provide skilled treatment to persons with substance abuse problems or eating disorders, people with burns, spinal cord injuries or amputations and persons with broken bones or other injuries resulting from falls or accidents.
The allied health program leads toward an Associate in Applied Science Degree upon completing the degree requirements.
The LCC OTA program has experienced tremendous success and growth since its inception. Most recently, the program’s success was validated with an extended 10-year national re-accreditation, which is vital for students to seek their certification after graduation.
The OTA program also maintains a partnership with the Laredo campus extension of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
The OTA to MOT (Master of Occupational Therapy) bridge program is a part-time option for occupational therapy assistants who wish to earn an entry-level MOT degree in Laredo.
The college will also admit a new class in the fall 2004 semester.
