poppin’ with 8,320 students
The historic Fort McIntosh campus of Laredo Community College is popping at the seams this fall semester after registering a record number of students-- 8,320.
For
the first time in LCC’s 56-year history, enrollment surpassed the 8,000-mark,
according to figures released by the LCC Admissions/Registration Office on
September 11. The record-breaking student headcount is an increase of 7.13
percent over last year’s fall enrollment.
In 2001, LCC fall enrollment was at 7,611 and reached 7,766
in fall 2002.
“Laredo Community College is pleased to welcome 8,320 students who choose to ACHIEVE MORE at Laredo’s college,” said President Dr. Ramón H. Dovalina. “The steady growth LCC has experienced in the past several years has fallen within predictions for growth that led to our planning for a second campus in South Laredo. We are maximizing all our resources on our current campus, expanding the courses offered in the afternoon and off-campus through distance education, and are preparing to welcome many more students next semester when we open our doors at LCC South.”
The first courses to be offered at LCC South in March 2004 will be Community Education and workforce preparation courses. The first college-credit courses will be offered in the first summer session of 2004.
In addition to the student population enrolled in college semester classes, LCC provides classes and other educational services to more than 5,000 students annually through its Adult Education, Community Education and special programs.
Registration is currently underway for persons seeking non-credit instruction in various career building and self-enrichment classes available through Community Education. For more information, call 721-5374.
LCC office hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
