Auditions set for LCC stage production

The Laredo Community College Drama Workshop invites students, faculty and staff to audition on Wednesday, October 1, for a part in the first major stage production at the new Martinez Fine Arts Center on campus.

Drama Workshop instructor and production director Gil Martinez Jr. says that the campus body is invited to try out for a role in their fall 2003 theater production of Our Lady of the Tortilla, a comedy written by Luis Santeiro.

“The play requires two males and four females,” said Martinez.  “Anyone who is an LCC student, faculty or staff member is encouraged to audition.  No prior acting experience is needed.”

The comedy centers on a Hispanic family coping with old and new beliefs and conflicts.  When a family member discovers what seems to be a religious miracle—the face of the Holy Virgin on a tortilla—major chaos sets in the family household.  But, as the drama unfolds, “the endurance of family love is revealed to be the real miracle,” according to a statement from the Dramatist Publishing Catalog.

Auditions will be held on October 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the LCC Adkins Building, Arena Theater.  Performance dates are set for November 20 through 23 at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center on campus.
