LCC to host state conference for grant writers

Representatives from 60 major colleges and universities in Texas will converge at Laredo Community College to attend a two-day state conference on federal grant opportunities for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) on Wednesday and Thursday.

The conference will offer opportunities to learn about funds available from federal agencies and effective ways to write winning grant proposals to promote institutional and student advancement.  Numerous federal agencies will be presenting.

The event is hosted by the Texas Consortium of Hispanic Serving Institutions, which is the first state consortium of the USDA created after a partnership led by LCC and the Houston Community College System received a $300,000 grant to improve educational access and success for thousands of Hispanic students.

The initiative aims to help the consortium of HSIs to enhance their grant writing abilities.

The two-day conference will be held in the De la Garza Building, room 101, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m.
