LCC graduates 18 nurses 

 

The area healthcare industry received a boost this month when 18 students at Laredo Community College graduated from the two-year Associate Degree Nursing program.

A special pinning and graduation ceremony honored the students, who lit candles and recited the health professional covenant after receiving their nursing pins.  The traditional ceremony was held on Thursday, May 12, in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater. 

Master of ceremonies was Jose Luis Santos, instructor.  Jerry Soto and Ana Gabriela Cuellar were the student speakers. 

During the ceremony, student achievement was recognized with the presentation of the Mary Alice Lopez Award to Maria E. Vivanco and the Merit Award to Rosa Isela Casas. 

Graduates for the Associate Degree in Nursing are: Eva F. Alvarado, Silvia Arce, Vanessa Y. Cadena, Rosa Isela Casas, Ana Gabriela Cuellar, Elsa Angelica Dominguez, Gustavo Sergio Gonzalez Jr., Monica Lizeth Martinez, Elena A. Peña, Jesús Orlando Peña, Simon Pedro Peralta, Jessica Lee Perez, Ana Laura Rodríguez, Kris Lugo Saldaña, Corina Serna, Jerry Soto and Maria E. Vivanco.

The Associate Degree Nursing Program at LCC is fully accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

The Associate Degree Nursing program at LCC prepares graduates for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).  Students implement the nursing process with client care in a structured health care setting.  The students participate in hands-on  clinical  experience  at  the  two  local  hospitals   and   at  other   sites throughout the community.

         The college is currently accepting applications from prospective students for fall 2005 admission to the ADN program.  Applications are available at the LCC ADN Office, located in Lopez Nursing Building, room 126. Admission is competitive and based on specific admission criteria.  The deadline to submit applications for fall 2005 admission is Thursday, May 26, by 5 p.m.
