Nursing hopefuls in search of a quality educational experience don’t have to travel too far to realize their career goals.
They can realize their dreams at Laredo Community College, which boasts an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program that rates high above the state average for graduates passing the state board exam.
This week, Dianna Miller, dean of health sciences at LCC, received a report from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) that 22 out of 23 graduates from the Dec. 2004 and May 2005 graduating classes passed the national licensing examination on their first attempt.
The pass rate of 95.83 percent achieved by the LCC nursing graduates is well above the average of 89.47 percent among all of Texas’ nursing schools.
“Laredo Community College is pleased to know that students in the Associate Degree Nursing program continue to receive a quality education to prepare themselves for the future,” Miller said.
Carolyn Otero, co-coordinator of the ADN program at LCC, offered praise to the graduates and instructors for their impressive achievement.
“Laredo Community College is proud of our students and faculty for achieving success on their state board exams,” Otero said. “The graduates should be proud to know they will be contributing to the area nursing pool, which is great news for the college and the city of Laredo.”
Jose Martinez also is co-coordinator of the nursing program.
The graduates include Eva F. Alvarado, Silvia Arce, Vanessa Y. Cadena, Rosa Isela Casas, Dora Laura Chapa, Ana Gabriela Cuellar, Elsa Angelica Dominguez, Becky Flores, Gustavo Sergio Gonzalez Jr., Rebecca Guajardo, Monica Lizeth Martinez, Ignacio Ortiz Jr., Elena A. Peña, Jesus Orlando Peña, Simon Pedro Peralta, Jessica Lee Perez, Sylvia Ramirez, Ana Laura Rodriguez, Kris Lugo Saldaña, Corina Serna, Jerry Soto and Maria E. Vivanco.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program at LCC is fully accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
The two-year nursing program prepares graduates for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Students implement the nursing process with client care in a structured health care setting. The students participate in hands-on clinical experience at the two local hospitals and at other sites throughout the community.
The college is currently accepting applications from prospective students for fall 2006 admission to the ADN program. Admission to the program is competitive and based on specific admission criteria.
LCC also offers a Licensed Vocational Nursing/Emergency Medical Technician Transition Track for licensed vocational nurses and paramedics who meet college admission criteria and other requirements. Interested persons also may apply now for summer 2006 admission.
