LCC Palominos named to All-Star team

Laredo was well represented at the All-Star Game of the Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball Coaches Association with the inclusion of four standouts and the head coach from the Laredo Community College Palomino team.

Brock Anderson, Joe Leghorn, Jeremy Sauceda and Robert Taylor were selected to the team.  All are beginning their second year with LCC this fall.

Additionally, LCC head baseball coach Chase Tidwell was named to serve as a co-coach of the All-Star Team along with Tom Arrington of San Jacinto College.

Taylor, an infielder for the Palominos who hails from Ingram, led the Region 14 south conference with 14 homeruns and 61 RBIs, Tidwell said.

Outfielder and Corpus Christi native Sauceda finished ninth in the conference in hitting with a .357, Tidwell noted.

Leghorn, with a .323 hitting average, was unanimously chosen to serve as the catcher for the All-Star Team.

“I can easily say that Leghorn is the best defensive catcher in the state of Texas,” said a proud Tidwell.

Anderson is an infielder for the Palominos with a .320 hitting average.

Both Anderson and Leghorn hail from British Columbia.

The All-Star Game was played at Baylor University in Waco on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
