LCC to host Second Art Jam Wednesday

The Laredo Community College Art Department will host more than 100 students and teachers from area middle and high schools during the second annual LCC Art Jam on Wednesday, March 9.  The guests will be welcomed at a brief orientation at 10 a.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center Theater.

LCC Art Department Chairperson Dale Short explained that the LCC Art Jam was established to foster greater awareness on the educational opportunities that await students after high school graduation.

“The mission of this program (Art Jam) is to engage students, from 8th to 12th grades, with the college’s art instructors and realize how they can benefit from LCC if they choose to study art as a professional career or a hobby,” said Short.

He added that the school teachers have also been invited to take part in special faculty workshops.

The workshops will be held at the Martinez Fine Arts Center and the LCC Art Building (P-25).

Workshops, led by LCC art instructors, will be offered in the areas of ceramics, life drawing, art metals/jewelry, printmaking, photography, drawing, food and culture, sculpture and painting.  The morning session will be from 10:40 to 12:15 a.m.; the afternoon session is from 1:10 to 2:40 p.m.
