LCC administrator named to AVANCE national board
Blas Castañeda, chief development officer for Laredo Community College, has been selected to serve on the national board of directors for AVANCE.
AVANCE is a leading parent education and support program dedicated to unlocking America’s potential by strengthening families in at-risk Hispanic communities.
Gloria Rodriguez, AVANCE president and CEO, is pleased to welcome Castaneda to the national board. In April, Castaneda was invited to help enhance the efforts of the non-profit organization’s Laredo chapter.
“Mr. Castaneda has continued to support our efforts in Laredo since the onset of the Laredo chapter, and I am grateful that he has agreed to do what he can to jumpstart the AVANCE Laredo chapter board of directors,” Rodriguez said.
She looks forward to working with Castaneda on the national level.
Castaneda is excited to be part of AVANCE’s national board.
“This type of appointment will allow Laredo Community College to continue to have access to national exposure for promoting, recruiting and assessing critical resources for LCC students and the community,” Castaneda said.
He added that through his affiliation with the national board, the college will be able to seek potential funding from corporate America to provide greater services to students and area families.
Castañeda has been actively involved in civic and educational causes for the benefit of youth and the community for 30 years. He is a founding member of the food bank and past board president of Junior Achievement. He also has assisted Literacy Volunteers of Laredo, Communities in Schools, Boy Scouts, and Little League, among other community organizations.
