Bank gift benefits LCC students
Students at Laredo Community College have received a special boost from Bank of America.
The financial institution has donated $5,000 to the L.C.C. Education Foundation to help enhance the college’s Employment Assistance Center and the Continuing Education Department.
The LCC Employment Assistance Center, which works to create rewarding linkages between area employers and college alumni and students, was approached in August by Bank of America to assist in securing potential job candidates for bank tellers for their new branch at Mall del Norte.
The outcome was a success. Bank of America was able to fill 11 of the 12 vacancies for bank tellers through the job recruitment strategy it developed with the LCC Employment Assistance Center.
“After a few weeks the response, according to banking officials, was great,” Employment Assistance Center director Margie Moncibais-Sanchez said. “Many students and alumni submitted their resumes. The bank had ample applicants to select from.”
“Bank of America enjoyed working with Laredo Community College to satisfy our job recruitment needs,” bank manager Pedro Torres said. “The bank found the kind of employees we were looking for to hire. The quality (of the bank’s new hires) is excellent.”
Bank of America thanked the college for its efforts in the form of the recent gift it received.
The donation will be used by the college to advance its employment development services for students and alumni, and to provide student and institutional support in the continuing education area.
The Continuing Education Department offers an array of workforce development courses for adults to enhance their job skills or learn a new career within a short time span.
The partnership between Laredo Community College and Bank of America is a win-win situation for everyone involved, college president Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina said.
“The bank satisfies its employment needs to offer quality service to its clients, and our students, alumni and community benefit from this job creation initiative,” Dovalina said.
