MONDAY, APRIL 11, 2005

Laredo Community College Main and South campuses launch early advising for Summer Sessions I and II.  Early advising runs from April 11 to 14 and April 18 to 21 from 1 to 6 p.m.  Students who have declared a major should report to the appropriate instructional department.  Students who are undecided about their degree should report to the Counseling Center, located at the Main campus’ Memorial Hall, room 125, or the South campus’ Billy Hall Student Center, room 113. Early advising is an opportunity for students to meet with faculty advisors to map out their degree plan and register early for summer classes now through May 18 via the On Line Enrollment system on the World Wide Web at ole.laredo.edu or by phone at 721-5100.  For more information, call 721-5109 or 794-4110.

 

The Laredo Community College Upward Bound program is accepting applications from 8th, 9th and 10th grade students from area schools to join the college prep program.  To qualify, students must be the children of parents who do not hold a four-year degree and they must be economically disadvantaged.  Students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application Monday through Thursday, now through May 10, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lerma-Peña Learning Center, room 120.  For more information, call 721-5238.

The Camilo Prada Child Development Center of Laredo Community College is open and has extended its enrollment to serve children between 18 months and 4 years of age.  The Prada Center is located at LCC South, 5500 South Zapata Highway.  For tuition and fees information or to enroll your child, call 794-4561.

 

The Little Palomino Head Start, located on the Laredo Community College Main campus and managed by the Webb County Head Start program, is conducting fall enrollment for 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children.  The center is open to the public, but priority is given to LCC students and employees.  For more information, call 722-9858 or 795-1515.

Student accomplishment is celebrated during the annual Laredo Community College Student Awards Night at 7:30 p.m. in the Kazen College Center.  Certificates of recognition and scholarship awards will be presented to college students.  The event is open to family and friends of the honorees.  For more information, call 721-5179.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13, 2005

A “Trees for Texas” planting ceremony, sponsored by H-E-B, is held at 10:30 a.m. on the Laredo Community College Main campus.  The event is at the former parade grounds in front of the college president’s home.  The local tree planting ceremony is part of H-E-B’s centennial celebration to plant 100, 40-gallon Treaty Oaks at parks and historic sites across Texas.  The LCC Main campus is located on the former military grounds of historic Fort McIntosh.  For more information, call 721-5140.

 

The Laredo Community College Opera Workshop launches its special adaptation of the Broadway musical “Into the Woods” with a special matinee performance for middle and high school students at 10 a.m. at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.  Admission is $3 per person.  For more information, call 721-5330.

 

The Laredo Community College Palomino baseball team hosts Schreiner University in a non-conference doubleheader, starting at noon at the LCC Doc Sanchez Field.  Admission is $1 for children (under 10 enter free), $2 for adults and free of charge with a valid LCC ID card.  For more information, call 721-5326.

Occupational Therapy Month is observed at Laredo Community College by students and faculty in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.  OTA students present a 20-minute lecture to science students to raise awareness about the benefits of this rewarding health career.  The presentation is at 10:30 a.m. in the Joaquin Cigarroa Science Laboratory, room 102.  For more information, call 721-5460.
