Deirdre Reyna is the new director of marketing and public information for the Laredo Community College District, announced President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina.
Dovalina said the College District is pleased to welcome Reyna to the LCC family. Prior to her arrival at LCC, Reyna was the public information officer for the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department.
She also brings to the college district a combined 16 years experience as photojournalist, graphic artist, journalist and newspaper editor.
“The Laredo Community College District is fortunate to have hired Deirdre Reyna to lead the marketing and public information efforts for the LCC Main and South campuses,” Dovalina said. “Ms. Reyna brings a wealth of experience and a keen sense of the local media market. Her contributions will greatly help the college district advance its mission of providing a quality education for the region’s benefit.”
Reyna graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English and communications from Texas A&M International University.
Reyna launched her journalism career while serving four years with United States Marine Corps as layout/design editor and photojournalist for a top base newspaper in the Department of Defense in Camp Pendleton, California.
She also worked as a photographer trainer for Olan Mills Portrait Studios in California before relocating to Texas to serve as a graphic artist and office manager for an advertising firm in McAllen.
In 1995, Reyna moved to Laredo to work for a local firm as a graphic artist and ad specialties coordinator.
Reyna began as a writer for the Laredo Morning Times in 1999 and advanced to copy editor before assisting in the development of the LMTBusiness Journal in 2000. She managed the business journal until leaving the newspaper in April 2004.
Reyna is actively involved in numerous civic activities, serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Webb County and is president of the Laredo Under Seven Flags Rotary Club.
