Drums snare stage spotlights at LCC Friday

 

The pulsating rhythms of drums, marimbas and more will sound off during a concert featuring the Percussion Ensemble of Laredo Community College Friday, Dec. 2.

The five-member performance ensemble, led by new music instructor Matthew Adams, will begin its concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature music composed for percussion instruments, including John Cage’s “Radio Music,” Christopher Rouse’s “Ogoun Badagris,” Carlos Chavez’s “Toccata” and Daniel Levitan’s “Variations on a Ghanian Theme.”

Members of the ensemble are Andres Alvarez, John Eric Carrillo, Carlos Castillo, Alejandro Cavazos and Chris De la Cruz.

Additionally, the concert will feature two solo performances on the marimba.

Cavazos will play “Prelude in e minor” by Ney Rosauro, while De la Cruz will perform “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by J.S. Bach.
