LCC to offer English as a Second Language instruction
Opportunities to learn or improve English language skills are available this spring at Laredo Community College main and south campuses.
Registration for the new term is now in progress via the college’s On Line Enrollment (OLÉ) system on the web at www.laredo.edu. The spring 2006 class schedule also is available at the same website.
English as a Second Language students follow a sequence of classes from Level 1 to Level 4.
The instruction offered by the LCC Foreign Languages Department consists of three classes. One is a lecture/reading class. The second class is a grammar course. The third is a laboratory course where students listen, repeat and answer lessons from the two other classes.
The classes are conducted completely in English to help the students listen, speak and hear the target language to its fullest.
To determine their English language skills, students may take an oral ENSL placement exam offered free by the LCC Assessment Center.
To register for the ENSL classes, prospective students should call the LCC Admissions/Registration Office at 721-5109 or 794-4110 (LCC South).
LCC offers choices for students to enroll in morning or evening ENSL classes.
Students who attend morning classes study Monday through Friday for about two hours.
Evening classes are offered twice a week, either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.
ENSL classes are available at the LCC main campus at West End Washington Street and the new LCC South campus at 5500 South Zapata Highway. The classes are open to students who are 17 years or older.
In addition to the ENSL classes, the LCC Foreign Languages Department offers various levels of study on the languages of Spanish and French.
For more information, call the LCC Foreign Languages Department at 721-5355.
