Estrada returns to LCC stage on Tuesday

Ventriloquist and motivator Nacho Estrada will return to Laredo Community College on Tuesday, March 8, to deliver a message on self-esteem, mixed with love, humor and the aide of his colorful puppets.

Estrada is scheduled to perform at 10 a.m. at the Billy Hall Student Center at the LCC South campus and then again at 1 p.m. in the Kazen College Center at West End Washington Street.

Admission to both performances is free and open to students and the public.

"This will mark the fifth occasion Laredo Community College brings the noted entertainer to the campus by popular student demand," said Priscilla Medina, director of student activities.

Estrada, who also is recognized as an educational consultant, gives presentations on drop-out prevention, drug abuse and environmental awareness.

His performances have been enjoyed by more than a million viewers, mostly children and college students.

The artist has won awards for his work, including the Texas State Teachers Association Human and Civil Rights Award and the Alamo District XX Friend of Education Award.

Estrada has also earned recognition by some of the country's leading publications, including The Washington Post for an article focusing on Estrada and his impressive talents, and the Smithsonian Magazine (December 1993) recognizing him as the best in distant voice performance.

Estrada is also a past recipient of the Literacy Award by the Alamo Reading Council and the Ventriloquist of the Year award at the International Ventriloquist Convention.
