Local students and families can receive advice from financial aid experts and guidance on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) during a live videoconference on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Laredo Community College.
In recognition of Financial Aid Awareness Month, the LCC Financial Aid Office will present “FAFSA Made Easy,” a videoconference hosted by the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG).
Admission is free of charge to high school and college students, as well as their parents. Adults going to college may also find the program beneficial. LCC will serve as a host site for the videoconference on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in de la Garza Building, room 101. LCC will also present the videoconference in Spanish in de la Garza Building, room 108.
The FAFSA is the first step students must complete to determine their financial aid eligibility. During the broadcast, TG, along with other financial aid experts, will guide viewers through the FAFSA.
"Completing the FAFSA, which has approximately 100 questions, can be a lengthy process," said LCC Financial Aid Director George Garcia. "However, the teleconference is designed to help remove some of the frustration by taking students and their parents step-by-step through the entire application."
To complete the FAFSA during the event, students or parents are advised to bring with them: the student's driver's license; Social Security card; W-2 forms and other records of money earned in 2004; 2004 U.S. income tax return (IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, OR 1040TEL); records of untaxed income, such as welfare, social security, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), or veterans benefits; current bank statements; current mortgage information (excluding primary home); business and farm records; and stocks, bonds, and other investment records.
