Students sought for LCC Honors program

    Opportunity is still available at Laredo Community College to be among the ranks of the area’s best and brightest high school graduates as members of the prestigious LCC Honors Program.

Time is running out to be considered for admission to the program.  Applications must be submitted by February 15.

    The LCC Honors Program, established in 1988, offers full scholarships and challenging academic opportunities.   It is acclaimed for giving the region’s gifted students the opportunity to excel in academics, community involvement, and to enhance their leadership potential.

    “The LCC Honors Program offers many valuable benefits to students, including full scholarships to cover the cost of all tuition, fees and books during their fall and spring semesters, up to 66 semester credit hours,” said Co-Coordinators Jose D. Compean and Dr. Jacinto P. Juarez.

    Academic advantages include educational field trips, specialized seminars on leadership skills, and much more.

    The Honors Program is affiliated with the National Collegiate Honors Council, the governing body for all college and university Honors programs, including the Ivy League schools.

    The program selects students on the basis of academic ability and community service, and has no income guidelines or limitations. Additional scholarships and grants are available for students in the Honors Program.

    The Honors Program at LCC is open to entering freshmen who meet at least one of the following requirements:

        ·        an ACT composite score of 23 with a minimum of 19 on both the English and mathematics tests;

        ·        a SAT composite score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on both the verbal and mathematics tests; and

        ·        graduation in the top ten percent of high school class under the recommended or Distinguished

                 Achievement Program and college-ready score on state-mandated exam.

    Applications for the LCC Honors Program are available from high school counselors and the LCC Honors Program webpage at www.laredo.edu/honor.  Applications are due by Tuesday, February 15.  For more information, call Juarez at 721-5832, Compean at 721-5304 or the Honors Program office at 764-5956.
