LCC benefit events target Katrina relief efforts
Relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina continue to grow at Laredo Community College, and next up are a big yard sale and celebrity volleyball benefit on Sunday, Oct. 2.
A wide array of gently used clothing and household articles, donated by LCC employees and student groups, will be sold during the Hurricane Katrina Benefit Yard Sale on LCC main campus grounds in front of the Kazen College Center.
Among items for sale will be clothes, electronics, kitchenware, toys and much more. The event will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the great bargains that will be available to support this worthy cause.
The yard sale will be followed by the Spike Katrina, Serve the Victims Celebrity Volleyball Benefit at 1:30 p.m. in the Maravillo Gymnasium.
The match will feature two teams consisting of local celebrities and LCC Palomino volleyball players competing against each other during this exciting fundraiser.
Each celebrity participant is expected to donate $100 for an opportunity to play, either through a personal or corporate donation, or by receiving pledges.
The entry fee to watch this fun-filled celebrity game will be a donation of school supplies, which will be given to displaced children attending Texas schools.
Food and drinks also will be sold throughout the day. All proceeds will be donated to community colleges in the region affected by the hurricane.
For more information or to join the celebrity teams, contact Athletic Director Troy Van Brunt at 721-5494.
