Sign-up for National Cheerleaders Association camp in progress

Area cheer squads are invited to enroll early for the National Cheerleaders Association instructional camp for school cheerleaders, which will be on the Laredo Community College Main campus from July 11 to 14.

The camp will be hosted by the Wellness Program of LCC and produced by Southwest Camps of Cisco, Texas.  Cheer squads may get information regarding the camp, or they may pre-enroll, by calling toll-free 1-888-442-2514.

The 2005 camp at LCC will mark 10 years of the well-known national cheerleaders’ organization holding a camp in Laredo.

The instructional program is conducted by a staff of expert college and university cheerleaders and headed by a veteran professional in the field.

The students will learn new cheers, chants, stunts, “bleacher mania,” and spirit dances.

Each squad will have the opportunity of being evaluated by the staff each evening. And each group will have a “buddy instructor” who will work individually with them on their various cheers presentations.

Awards will be presented on the final day of the program.

Lu Sparkman, camp director, said that all groups in the Laredo area are encouraged to learn more about the camp and to attend it.

“Just call the camp company’s office with the toll-free number to get all the needed information,” Sparkman said.
