The sweet sounds of guitarists, trumpets and more will resonate with the rich cultural heritage of Mexico during the annual concert presentation of “Noche Mexicana” at Laredo Community College on Wednesday, April 20.
The community is invited to attend the LCC Mariachi Palomino and the Traditional Guitar Group yearly concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the LCC Music and Dance Department, in association with the City of Laredo.
Both college performance ensembles are led by Music Instructor Ruben Vargas. The groups will perform an array of traditional and contemporary music from Mexico.
“The concert offers an opportunity to experience a taste of Mexico through the excitement of music,” Vargas said.
Music lovers can expect to hear popular songs, including “Tristes Recuerdos,” “Granada,” “El Rey,” “Piel Canela,” “Como,” and “Si Te Doy Mi Corazon,” among other cherished selections.
The Traditional Guitar Group features student singers and musicians dedicated to performing popular Spanish music. Their repertoire includes songs from Mexican trios, rondallas and South American grupos folkloricos.
Mariachi Palomino, which recently garnered first place performance awards at Laredo and El Cenizo parades, performs a wide range of instrumental and vocal mariachi music.
