Laredo Community College has signed an agreement with Pearson VUE, an electronic testing business of Pearson Education, to provide Information Technology (IT) certification test delivery using the Pearson VUE Testing System.
The Pearson VUE advanced computer-based testing system administers exams for leading IT certification programs such as Microsoft, Cisco Systems, CompTIA, IBM and others through a global network of quality test centers.

Enrique Garcia, LCC computer information systems instructor, noted that the new partnership compliments the college’s existing affiliations as a CISCO Academy and a Microsoft IT Academy via the LCC Computer Technology Department.
“This will greatly benefit our recent graduates, alumni and individuals who possess the training and skills needed to participate in Information Technology certification and get the recognition they need to increase their credibility in the marketplace,” said Garcia.
Ricardo Tijerina, LCC computer information systems instructor, added that the new service at LCC offers valuable money- and time-saving benefits to test candidates.
“With Pearson VUE, area citizens no longer have to endure the cost and time involved in traveling out-of-town to take any of these IT certification exams. They can accomplish this in town at LCC,” explained Tijerina.
Among the technological advances of the Pearson VUE system is the ability of test candidates to register and reschedule their tests on the Pearson VUE web site (www.pearsonvue.com) or through a Pearson VUE call center, all in real time via the Internet. The Pearson VUE Center at LCC is located at the Lerma-Peña Learning Center. Testing center hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 to 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
“The Pearson VUE Testing System gives us unparalleled control and flexibility over LCC’s ability to manage this valuable service our way,” added Joe Regalado, Senior Computer Instructional Specialist. “LCC has the opportunity to experiment with testing hours and number of testing stations. We can easily offer same-day testing with the Pearson VUE TESTNOW capability, or bring testing to our customers’ locations. Everyone benefits.”
LCC is able to provide certification testing in more than 40 programs, including: American College of Sports Medicine, Adobe, Agilent Technologies, Altiris, The American College, Avaya Inc., Bind View, BMC Software, Brocade Communications, Check Point Software Technologies, Cisco Systems, CompTIA, IBM Testing, Internet Security Systems, Investors Business Daily, Linux Professional Institute, Lotus Testing, Macromedia Testing, Microsoft Business Solutions, Microsoft Testing, National Instruments, Novell Testing, Security Certified Program, Siemens, Telecommunications Industry Association, Tivoli Testing, Veritas, VUE Testing and Zend Technologies, among others.
The growing list of IT certification tests accessible through the Pearson VUE system are delivered directly from the test sponsors. Test results are quickly transmitted back, ensuring the candidate’s certification status is promptly updated.
