LCC Phi Theta Kappa achieves Silver status

The Theta Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Laredo Community College has garnered  a distinct recognition for reaching significant milestones in membership growth.

Rod A. Risley, executive director of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two-Year College, recently announced that the LCC chapter has achieved the Pinnacle Silver level in Phi Theta Kappa’s 2004 Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program.  A Pinnacle Silver scholarship award of $100 has been awarded to LCC to recognize its chapter’s accomplishment.

“(Phi Theta Kappa) congratulates the Theta Theta Chapter for their superlative efforts that earned them the 2004 Pinnacle Silver Chapter Award,” said Risley.

The Pinnacle award program motivates chapters to enhance their methods of communicating the benefits of membership to eligible students, said Risley.

To earn the silver chapter designation, a chapter must increase its membership acceptance rate by 10 percent over the previous year.

The LCC Phi Theta Kappa chapter has experienced an impressive surge in membership during its most recent induction ceremonies: 18 in Spring 2003, 30 in Fall 2003, 34 in Spring 2004 and an all-time chapter high of 40 in Fall 2004.

LCC will initiate a new corps of Phi Theta Kappa members during its Spring 2005 induction ceremony on Thursday, March 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the de la Garza Building, room 101.  The traditional ceremony is open to family and friends of the initiates, as well as the public.
