New real estate course added at LCC

Persons interested in joining the rewarding real estate industry should take advantage of the availability of a new course section at Laredo Community College for a popular introductory course required for licensure as broker or salesperson.

A new weekend course section for Principles of Real Estate 1 (RELE 1201) will be offered at the LCC main campus on October 21, 22 and 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

The course offers an overview of licensing requirements for broker and salesperson licenses, ethics of real estate practice and forms of real estate ownership.

Participants also learn how title to real estate is transferred and types of legal description.

The course also introduces students to the law of agency, deeds, liens and other encumbrances, real v. personal property, contracts, appraisal, finance and regulations, closing procedures, and fair housing laws.

John Perez, who most recently completed 10 years as the senior instructor for LCC’s Real Estate Education program, will teach the course.

Throughout the years, the LCC Real Estate Education program has helped several hundred Laredoans obtain their real estate license and many more from the surrounding vicinity, including Cotulla, Zapata, Hebbronville and Freer.

“The majority of real estate brokers and salespersons in Laredo have acquired their education through the Real Estate Education program at LCC,” Perez said.

Ernestina C. Vela, chair of the Business/Management Department, said that the college is pleased to offer this new course section.

“Laredo Community College is pleased to meet the demand for this popular program of study,” Vela said.
