‘Celebrities’ in volleyball benefit at LCC Sunday
What do bank
executives, a college president and a city councilman have in common?
They will be among the “stars” who will serve up relief for victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita during a Celebrity Volleyball Benefit on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Laredo Community College.
The community is invited to be part of the relief efforts by attending the benefit, which starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Maravillo Gymnasium. The entry fee to watch this fun-filled celebrity game will be a donation of school supplies, children’s books or $1, for the benefit of displaced children attending Texas schools.
The match will feature two teams consisting of local celebrities and LCC Palomino women’s volleyball players competing against each other during this exciting fundraiser.
Among the celebrities will be John Villarreal and Willy Martinez of International Bank of Commerce, LCC President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina, and Laredo councilman John Galo.
Others include Marcus Moreno of All-State Insurance, Sergio Contreras of SBC and Ricky Valdez of South Texas Primary Care.
From LCC, instructors Alfredo Iniguez, Gracie Rodriguez and Jodie Valls will participate, as will college staff members Rick Moreno, Felix Gamez and Sarah Kortum.
To participate in the benefit, each celebrity participant is expected to donate at least $100, either through a personal or corporate donation, or by receiving pledges.
Proceeds will benefit persons affected by the storms that affected the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast region.
