Staying ‘safe and sober’ focus of LCC events
Spring break is a weeklong vacation from books and studies for many students.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (March 15 and 16), students at Laredo Community College’s main and south campuses will have an opportunity to learn that aside from the fun, there are many dangers and life-threatening situations which may occur during their break from studies.
LCC hopes to keep students safe and sober with its annual Spring Break fair and celebration on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the LCC South Billy Hall Student Center, and then on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Kazen College Center on West End Washington Street. Admission is free and open to students and the public.
The events are sponsored by LCC Health Services and the Student Activities Office, in conjunction with the Traffic Safety Section of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
The Safe and Sober celebration will include a Community Service Agency Fair which will promote safety during spring break.
At LCC South, representatives from the Laredo Crime Stoppers and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) and the LCC Criminal Justice Club will participate. Additionally, LCC Student Activities will serve free non-alcoholic mocktails.
The LCC main campus on Wednesday will also feature a fair, which is expected to attract about 10 community agencies. Additionally, student clubs will participate in a Safe and Sober Spring Break poster awareness contest, and complimentary mocktails will be served. Other event highlights include an exhibit of a wrecked car in front of the Kazen Center grounds and a coffin to emphasize the message for students to stay safe and sober this spring break.
The LCC campus will be closed for spring break from March 21 to 28. Classes resume on Tuesday, March 29.
