Recent advancements to the Department of Homeland Security US-VISIT program will be discussed at a regional stakeholder forum at the Laredo Community College Main campus on Thursday (June 23) from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the de la Garza Building, room 101.
Interested persons are encouraged to attend the forum and offer their input to help ensure a smooth implementation of the US-VISIT program.
The status of the US-VISIT program, including the development of automated entry and exit procedures at land border ports of entry, will be presented.
A senior Department of Homeland Security and Department of State official will talk about the modernization of the U.S. border and immigration management system, including biometric and radio frequency identification technologies and the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
US-VISIT is a band of security measures that collect biometric and biographic data from visitors at the U.S. visa-issuing posts around the world, and upon their arrival in and departure from U.S. air, sea and land border ports.
The program was implemented in phases in January 2004 at 115 airports and 15 seaports around the country and at the 50 busiest land ports of entry.
In Texas, 21 land ports of entry, including Laredo, have had US-VISIT in place since December 2004.
