Students featured in LCC music recital Thursday

The spotlight will shine on 12 student musicians who will showcase their budding talents during the annual Student Solo Recital Thursday, Nov. 17 at Laredo Community College.

Sponsored by the LCC Music and Dance Department, the recital begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.

Admission is free and open to family and friends of the student musicians, as well as the public.

The program will begin with Christopher De la Cruz on marimba, performing Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”  He is a student of instructor Matt Adams.

The recital will continue with Elizabeth Guerrero on flute; she will play “Suite Modal” by Ernest Bloch.  Guerrero is taught by adjunct instructor Melissa Hinojosa.

Pianist Ruben Castillo will follow with his performance of Robert Vandall’s “Fantasy on Jingle Bells.”  He is a student of instructor Dr. Susan Liu, who will accompany Castillo on piano.

The program will continue with three student musicians of instructor Dr. Cain Budds, including Arnold Yzaguirre, Israel Cruz and Abel Padilla.

Yzaguirre will perform “Preludes 3 and 4” by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Cruz will offer a performance of Domenico Scarlatti’s “Sonata in A Major” and Francisco Tarrega’s “Rosita-Polka.”

The remaining six music students are all under the tutelage of instructor Jose D. Compean: Tiffany Santos and Myrna Saldaña on clarinet, Adam Hernandez on tenor sax, Jesus Lugo and Jose “Paco” Treviño on trumpet and Reymundo Torres on tuba.

Santos will perform Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto,” followed by Saldana’s presentation of Robert Schumann’s “Fantasy Piece #1.”

Afterwards, Hernandez will be featured in the performance of Bach’s “Adagio” and “Adante/Presto.”

The concert will follow the performance of two movements from Franz J. Hadyn’s “Trumpet Concerto in E flat.”  Lugo will perform “Allegro,” while Treviño performs “Andante.”

The program will conclude with Torres’ performance of the Georg P. Telemann piece “Adagio and Allegro.”
