The history of theater and actor’s training are just some facets that will be covered in exciting drama courses Laredo Community College will offer this summer and fall.
Students can foster an appreciation for theater, minus the task of stage lights and live performance, by enrolling in DRAM 1310, Introduction to Theatre. The course will be offered on Monday through Thursday from 12:20 to 2:20 p.m. during Summer Session I.
DRAM 1310 offers an overview of theatre history and much more, said Gil Martinez, Jr., speech/drama instructor.
“The class deals with all aspects of theatre history, ranging from the early Greek period to contemporary times,” Martinez said. “Students should know that this is a non-performance course, which satisfies their visual and performing arts requirement in the core curriculum inventory,” Martinez noted.
This fall, LCC will offer DRAM 1351 and DRAM 1352, Introduction to Acting I and II. Introduction to Acting I and II offer a comprehensive view on the art of theater.
“Students learn how to build sets, create costumes, work with make-up, and the basics of acting,” Martinez said.
Summer Session I runs from May 30 to June 29. Early advising and registration for summer classes is under way. For more information, contact the LCC Reading/Speech Department by calling 721-5358.
