-- Distance learning is expanded to include online classes.

million federal grant is awarded to expand the Cigarroa Science Building and
establish an endowed scholarship program

-- Ground breaks for new science laboratory building on the main campus.
-- Contract to purchase LCC Second Campus land from the Camilo Prada Family is signed.
-- LCC and the Daybreak Rotary Club announce a $100,000 scholarship endowment.
-- LCC launches Teacher Certification Program for technology educators.

the rigorous standards of the Southern Association of Colleges

receives full re-accreditation for another 10-year period.
2002
-- Fifty newly certified teachers are first to graduate from LCC’s Teacher Certification Program.
-- LCC and TAMIU sign pact with the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra for music education and performance.
-- The Laredo Community College Education Foundation is launched.

Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center opens with
fanfare.
2004

-- March 1 - LCC
South opens with Continuing Education and Protective
Services classes.

-- April
16 - The seven buildings
and bell tower at LCC South are
dedicated with large community
celebration highlighted by fireworks
and mariachi music.
-- Music
and Dance Building I is renamed the Manuel F. Llaguno Memorial Building to honor
a donor and friend of the
college.
-- LCC ranks among the nation’s Top 50 community colleges awarding the most associate degrees to Hispanic students.

-- The
Camilo Prada Child Development Center opens at LCC
South.

-- Aug. 30
- LCC South launches its
first full semester of courses.
The two-campus district posts a record
enrollment of more
than 9,000
students for fall semester.

LCC receives a $750,000 grant from
the Department of Health and Human Services to train child care workers in a
career ladder program from certificates
towards bachelor’s degrees.
2005

breaks all previous enrollment records; spring enrollment at

Palomino men’s tennis team wins Laredo’s first national
