A group of Laredo Community College students hopes to use the power of music and dance to bring some relief to the victims of the Tsunami disaster at a concert benefit next weekend.
The LCC Phi Theta Kappa International Honor
Society will host an entertainment benefit, billed as “Healing the Pain: Tsunami
Crisis,” on Sunday, January 30. The community is invited to attend the benefit,
which starts at 2 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center
theater.
Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children.
All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of the Tsunami disaster, said PTK President Priscilla Martinez.
“The Phi Theta Kappa organization at Laredo Community College explored various options to get students and community involved in this international relief effort, and decided to organize this benefit which will feature local talent and give Laredoans the opportunity to enjoy a special concert and contribute to the Tsunami relief efforts,” said Martinez.
Just one week into the spring term, PTK members have been working at a feverish pace to put together this major benefit with the collaboration of other student organizations and college leaders, said Martinez.
She added that local performing artists have also shown a major interest in contributing to the benefit. Dance, music and cheerleading groups from local schools, as well as several rock bands have expressed a desire to participate.
“It is very heart-warming to experience a generous and caring outpour from the campus body and Laredo community to put this benefit together,” said Martinez.
