LCC students donate $1,500 to Tsunami victims
The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of Laredo Community College presented last week a symbolic check of $1,500 to the American Red Cross to benefit victims of the Tsunami disaster. Members of the LCC honor society—with the assistance of other student clubs, college leaders and community—organized a major concert benefit, entitled Heal the Pain: Tsunami Crisis on Jan. 30. The five-hour long concert featured an array of talent, including elementary, middle and high school acts, student performers from LCC and TAMIU, and local Tejano, rock and mariachi bands. All proceeds from the benefit have been donated to the American Red Cross to assist relief efforts for the Tsunami disaster victims. On hand for the check presentation were, from left, PTK member Karina Mata, LCC President Dr. Ramon Dovalina, PTK Secretary Jennifer Torres, PTK President Priscilla Martinez, American Red Cross Executive Director Adam Rodriguez, PTK Vice-President Esteban Nieto and PTK Senior Advisors Jose Compean and Dr. Jacinto Juarez.
