A small aircraft helped United States Congressman Henry Bonilla visit a large portion of South Texas, including a visit to Laredo Community College South on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
Congressman Bonilla was in Laredo attending a reception, hosted by the college, in recognition for his efforts to secure a $248,000 grant for the benefit of LCC students attending the south campus.
The U.S. Department of Education grant is supplying new state-of-the-art technology for the development of the Senator Judith Zaffirini Library at LCC South.
Bonilla’s trip to LCC South was the final stretch of a busy flight schedule, which included a visit to the Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio and the opening ceremony for a United States Border Patrol facility in Carrizo Springs. Bonilla’s itinerary was possible thanks to a Border Patrol helicopter.
College officials were pleased that the congressman was able to tour the LCC South campus. State Senator Judith Zaffirini also attended the reception.
They say the grant that Bonilla secured will support a wireless computer system and new online services for the Zaffirini Library. The grant also is being utilized to acquire 25 notebook computers with wireless capabilities for students to use within the library and connect to the Internet and other college and library network resources.
Additionally, the grant is aiding the college to add more books and other educational tools for the Zaffirini Library.

MISSION COMPLETED: U.S. Congressman Henry Bonilla chats with Laredoan Margaret Martin before boarding a Border Patrol helicopter with his legislative aides, Steve Dutton and Richard Martinez, at the LCC South campus grounds. The aircraft made it possible for the legislator to participate in an extensive jaunt of several South Texas cities on Tuesday.
