The national observance of Week of the Young Child will be celebrated locally by the students and teaching staff at the Camilo Prada Child Development Center at Laredo Community College South, beginning Monday, April 4.
The kick-off event on Monday will include song and dance performances and an art show led by the children who attend the Child Development Center at the new LCC South campus. The Laredo Children’s Museum also will offer balloon figure art to children.
CDC Director Gloria Castillo says that 18-month old children will sing the popular children’s song “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and two-year-olds will dance to a song entitled, “Freeze.” Another group of 3- and 4-year-old children will dance a traditional song, entitled “La Ranita.”
Guests who attend the event also will have an opportunity to select and take an art piece created by a child to display proudly in their office or at home.
“The Camilo Prada Child Development Center hopes that the event re-affirms a commitment by everyone to promote early learning in the life of every young child,” notes Castillo.
Other activities scheduled for the week include an environmentally-friendly planting activity on Tuesday, children’s ID finger printing on Wednesday, and story telling on Thursday.
