Music students, who have spent months perfecting their performance skills under the tutelage of their instructors and on their own, will be in the spotlight next week as they showcase their talents during two music recitals at Laredo Community College.
Music students—including percussion, brass, woodwind and strings—will be presented in a Student Recital Tuesday, April 11.
And then on Thursday, April 13, students associated with the LCC Percussion Ensemble will be featured in a concert.
Both performances start at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.
Admission to both concerts is free and open to the public.
During Tuesday’s recital, aficionados of instrumental music will be able to enjoy an array of music styles, ranging from the percussion works of contemporary composer Ney Rosauro to the classics by master composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Handel and Mozart.
The student musicians include Carlos Castillo and Christopher de la Cruz, percussion students of Matthew Adams; Elizabeth Guerrero, flute student of Melissa Hinojosa; Elizabeth Guerrero, Leticia Joy Alva, Wendy Mitsui, Jon Guerrero, Ricardo Salazar, Myrna Saldaña and Rogelio Santa Cruz, chamber musicians of Luis Casal; Rogelio Santa Cruz, Fred Barrera and Apolonio Parra, guitar students of Dr. Cain Budds; and Tiffany Santos, Myrna Saldaña, Jerry Espinoza, Humberto Tamez and Reymundo Torres, applied music students of Jose Compean.
Thursday’s concert with the Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Matthew Adams, will feature a unique array of compositions by the internationally noted percussion composer and performer Ney Rosauro, who recently was featured in a concert at LCC.
Among the featured works will be “Prelude and Blues,” “Mitos Brasileiros,” “Cirandas” and “Samba.”
Members of the student ensemble are Andy Alvarez, Carlos Castillo, Alejandro Cavazos, Christopher de la Cruz, Marianne Garcia, Sonia Gutierrez and Wendy Matsui.
