Laredo Community College and the City of Laredo are joining forces to host the first Earth Day Festival Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center on the main campus grounds.
Co-sponsored by the city’s Keep Laredo Beautiful campaign and the LBVESC, the festival will include an array of activities for the entire family.
Interested persons can lend a helping hand to beautify the Paso del Indio Nature Trail and enjoy a free lunch, games, science center tours, environmental workshops, prize giveaways and music.
There also will be a native plant sale with proceeds benefiting the livelihood of the environmental science center.
Tom Miller, director of the LBVESC, said that the college is pleased to be working with the city to organize the Earth Day Festival, which is part of the science center’s anniversary celebration.
The center’s anniversary also will be celebrated with Gator Aid V on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. Friends of the environment will have a unique opportunity to party on the wild side and support the center’s advancement with dinner and music under the stars on the LBVESC grounds. Tickets are now on sale for $35 and can be purchased by calling 764-5701.
Located on the north side of the LCC campus in close proximity to the Rio Grande, the science center serves as a living laboratory for LCC students.
It also is an important center for science education for the region’s students from pre kindergarten to 12th grade.
