
Federal aid to benefit river bend

Law enforcement along the Rio Grande has received a major boost from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. On Tuesday, Congressman Henry Cuellar was joined by city, federal and education officials at the Paso del Indio Nature Trail at Laredo Community College to announce a $500,000 award that will benefit national security be enhancing visibility, mobility and access in secluded areas fronting the river within the corporate limits of the city of Laredo. Among those present for the announcement were, from left, LCC President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina, Laredo Mayor Betty Flores, Congressman Cuellar and U.S. Assistant Chief Patrol Agent for the Laredo sector of Border Patrol Vito Ramirez.
