SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2006

Footsteps turn into scholarships as Justice of the Peace Hector Liendo and friends put on their walking shoes for the first College Walk scholarship fundraiser for the benefit of Laredo Community College students.  The walk starts at the Northside Boys and Girls Club at 10 a.m. and it ends at the LCC main campus at approximately 11:30 a.m.  It’s 5,280 steps to raise $5,280 for student scholarships.  For more information, call the office of Judge Liendo, 523-4299.

 

MONDAY, AUGUST 7, 2006

Fall in step toward a brighter future at the “College of Champions.”  Registration for the fall 2006 semester at Laredo Community College is in progress through Aug. 16 via the On Line Enrollment (OLÉ) system at http://ole.laredo.edu from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.  For more information, call 721-5109 or 794-4110.

 

Road improvements at the Laredo Community College main campus have reduced incoming and outgoing traffic to one lane at the Washington Street overpass.  Motorists can use two other entranceways, including one on the northeast side of campus and the other on the south side of campus.  The pedestrian sidewalk on the overpass remains open.  Work on the Washington Street overpass is in progress until Aug. 21.  Please obey all road signs and traffic control personnel.  For more information, call 721-5140. 

 

Walk on the wild side at Laredo Community College.  Enjoy a guided or self-guided tour of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center on the north side of the main campus.  Live exhibits featuring alligators, fish, and much more await the entire family.  Summer hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For more details, call 764-5701.

 

Summer office hours at Laredo Community College main and south campuses continue through Aug. 18.  Campus offices are open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.  The college resumes its normal hours of operation the week of Aug. 21.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2006

Healthcare in Laredo gets a boost with the graduation of a class of vocational nursing students at Laredo Community College.  A traditional pinning ceremony to recognize the graduates is held at 6 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.  The ceremony is open to friends and family of the graduates, as well as the public.  For more information, call 721-5255.
