Faculty and staff at Laredo Community College explored “New Frontiers” during the Fall 2006 Convocation Monday, Aug. 21.
The event for all full- and part-time employees at both LCC main and south campuses began with a chuck wagon-style breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Kazen College Center before moving to the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater for a general session at 9 a.m.
Highlights of the general session included a presentation honoring the memory of recently deceased staff and a dance performance featuring LCC Student Advocates with a message on how to embrace change as the college discovers new frontiers.
LCC President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina welcomed college employees to the launch of a new school year and offered a special message to faculty and staff.
Also, staff from the Information Technology Department offered a presentation on the new Banner computer information system, which is under development at the college. An update on the campus-wide telephone system also was discussed.
After a short break, the general session continued at 10:45 a.m. with a special presentation by noted motivational speaker Efrain "Happy" Guerrero.
He addressed LCC employees on how they can attain their goals with the power of self-discipline.
After breaking for lunch, LCC employees returned to attend various breakout sessions and meetings throughout the afternoon.
LCC Convocation finished off with a festive flair for all faculty and staff in the Kazen College Center.
LCC returned to its regular hours of operation Tuesday, Aug. 22. The schedule is Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
