LCC showcases percussion groups Friday

 

Laredo Community College marches to the beat of a different drum on Friday, Dec. 8 during a recital featuring the new indoor drumline, the Laredo Grenadiers, and the Percussion Ensemble.

The recital starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The first section of the recital will feature the LCC Percussion Ensemble, performing three selections, including a Mallet Duet, Henry Cowell’s Pulse and Michael Colgrass’ Three Brothers.

After a brief intermission, the recital continues with the Laredo Grenadiers, which was launched this fall and has quickly become a popular performance group at college and civic events.

The Laredo Grenadiers will perform Tony King’s Vatos, Krakus by Murray Gusseck, Jim Casella’s Spice Mon, Gusseck’s Doublebeat 2004 and Latin Lover by Brian Perez.

The student performers include Andres Alvarez, Eric Carillo, Carlos Castillo, Alejandro Cavazos, Mario Galvan, Marianne Garcia, Jorge Meza, Israel Ramirez, Sandra Ramon, Myrna Saldana, Ulysses Salinas, Guillermo Sandoval and Jose Santana.

Both groups are under the direction of LCC music instructor Matthew Adams.
