Local nursing hopefuls in search of a quality education don’t have to travel too far to realize their career goals.
They can fulfill their dreams at Laredo Community College, which boasts an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program, where recent graduates achieved a 100 percent passing rate on the state board exam.
Dianna Miller, dean of health sciences at LCC, recently received a report from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) that all 23 graduates from the Dec. 2005 and May 2006 graduating classes passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on their first attempt.
With a 100 percent pass rate, LCC nursing graduates are excelling above the state average of 89.9 percent among Associate Degree Nursing programs, 92 percent among Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs and 90 percent among all (ADN and BSN) programs.
“Laredo Community College is pleased to know that students in the Associate Degree Nursing program continue to receive a quality education to prepare themselves for their future,” Miller said.
She added that the graduates should be proud of their achievement, knowing that they are contributing to the area nursing pool.
The December 2005 graduates include Carolina Arreazola, Ronald Cha, Erika Chapa, Rogelio Espinoza, Jose L. Garcia, Blanca Garza and Veronica Valle-Sullivan.
Graduates of the May 2006 class are: Oscar Eddie Brownlee, Nadia Mariza Castillo, Sarah E. Coutino, Jessica Delapass, Esmeraldo Silaras Guirigay, Julia Marie Martinez, Audrey Mendez, Ricardo Alejandro Mendiola, Rebeca Consuelo Muñoz, Danita M. Paz, Maria Teresa Peña, Cristen Jayne Rojas, Rosa Alicia Torres, Oscar A. Villanueva, Vanesa Lorraine Villarreal and Luis A. Wico.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program at LCC is fully accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
The two-year nursing program prepares graduates for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Students implement the nursing process with client care in a structured health care setting. The students participate in hands-on clinical experience at the two local hospitals and at other sites throughout the community.
The college is currently accepting applications from prospective students for fall 2007 admission to the ADN program. Admission to the program is competitive and based on specific admission criteria. The deadline to submit the application materials is Thursday, May 24, but prospective students are encouraged to apply early since enrollment is limited.
LCC also offers a Licensed Vocational Nursing/Emergency Medical Technician Transition Track for licensed vocational nurses and paramedics who meet college admission criteria and other requirements.
