The
commemoration of Black History Month at Laredo Community College will wrap up
with a special message to students from former MTV “Real World” star Mohammed
Bilal, who now, as a diversity consultant, helps people move beyond the sheer
tolerance of difference.
Bilal is speaking about “12 Steps Towards Appreciating Diversity.” He launched his talks locally Monday, Feb. 27 in the Kazen College Center and will offer another presentation Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 12 p.m. in the Billy Hall Student Center.
His presentation is fun and interactive, “sprinkled with scholarship, hip-hop, and self-reflective narratives that equip the audience with easy, valuable, and powerful tools for appreciating the wondrous diversity around us.”
Admission to both presentations is free and open to LCC students and the community.
LCC’s observation of Black History Month has been filled with the presentation of contemporary movies, music and an exhibition of posters with information about the contributions made by African Americans from the past and those who will continue to make history well into the future.
The displays are posted at both the Kazen College Center and the Billy Hall Student Center.
