Adults who don’t have the time to sit in a college classroom can advance their careers or learn new job skills with Education to Go at Laredo Community College.
As a member of the international ed2go network, LCC is able to provide a myriad of highly interactive courses that any adult can take entirely over the World Wide Web.
The courses are available to residents in Laredo, Zapata, Hebbronville, Encinal, El Cenizo and Rio Bravo on the web from a computer with Internet access.
“Laredo Community College is pleased to be part of the ed2go system, which consists of more than 1,250 colleges, universities and other educational entities across the United States, Canada, and Australia,” Steve Mon Dragon, director of continuing education, said.
“Students can take the online courses from the comfort of their home or office at times that are most convenient to them,” Mon Dragon added. “This is particularly ideal for adults in our neighboring communities who can save time and money from having to commute to the LCC campus.”
Among the 120 ed2go courses that LCC will offer this spring are online classes about computer applications, the Internet, languages, entertainment industry, personal enrichment, grant writing and nonprofit management, test prep, law and legal careers, and much more.
The courses are six to eight weeks long and are composed of 12 lessons, representing 24 hours or more of instruction. A new section of every ed2go course will be offered by LCC on Jan. 18, Feb. 15 and March 15.
The online classes will be led by some of the most well-known and trusted names in online education.
For instance, the course on “Becoming a Grant Writing Consultant” will be led by veteran grant writing consultant Beverly Browning, who has helped her clients win more than $55,000,000 since 1986. She is a college instructor, conducts workshops nationally, and has authored over a dozen reference and how-to books, including Grant Writing For Dummies.
For those seeking a fun and creative career to learn, consider enrolling in “Theme Park Engineering” with Steve Alcorn, the president of a company that engineers equipment for theme parks all over the world. With more than 20 years’ experience designing audio, video, show and lighting control equipment, Alcorn is a frequent speaker at conferences, author of fiction and non-fiction books and a teacher of robotics. His favorite theme park ride he helped design is “The Amazing Adventures of Spider Man” at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
Mon Dragon added that the students can ask questions and give or receive advice at any time during the course.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to download a handsome certificate of completion.
