World-class percussionist to perform at LCC Feb. 5

Ney Rosauro, one of the world’s most original and dynamic percussionists, will offer a stunning concert performance at Laredo Community College Sunday, Feb. 5.

Rosauro will perform in an exclusive engagement, which starts at 3 p.m. at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.  Admission is free to the public.

The concert is sponsored by the LCC Music and Dance Department, Innovative Percussion Inc., SABIAN and the Yamaha Corporation of America.

Rosauro—born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—is a talented percussionist and gifted composer, whose works have been recorded by internationally acclaimed artists such as Evelyn Glennie and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Additionally, critics have praised Rosauro’s five solo CDs and recording projects.

“Laredo Community College is very fortunate to bring Ney Rosauro to our community.  His compositions are very popular worldwide and he has garnered excellent reviews on his performances held in Cuba, Argentina, Switzerland, Austria, England, Spain, China and the U.S., among many other countries,” LCC percussion instructor/event organizer Matthew Adams said.

Rosauro is set to perform an array of works, most of them original compositions, including “Bem-vindo,” “Two Reflections for solo vibraphone,” “Brejeiro,” “O Primeiro Amor” and “Concerto No. 2 for Marimba,” among other pieces.

“This will be a unique, first-rate performance that music lovers should not miss,” Adams said.

Rosauro began studying percussion at age 25 with the conductor of the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra.

He studied composition and conducting at the University of Brazil, and continued his studies toward a master’s degree in percussion from a German university.  Rosauro obtained his DMA in percussion at the University of Miami.

With more than 30 years of teaching experience, Rosauro is currently the director of percussion studies at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.

As a special benefit for music students from LCC and area schools, Rosauro will conduct a master class after the concert at 6 p.m. in the Martinez Fine Arts Center recital hall.  Admission to the class, sponsored by LCC, is free.
