LCC library hosts art show
Patrons at the Yeary Library at Laredo Community College may come head-to-head with something besides books Monday, June 12.
That’s
because the college library will showcase a collection of large masks created by
art students of instructor Dan McInnis.
Librarian William Wisner noted that the colorful masks, ranging from 2 to 4 feet tall, should make for interesting viewing.
“These striking works are sure to draw interest from a wide range of people, including children,” Wisner said.
McInnis added that the 12-piece art show consists of works made by last semester’s Design II class. The masks focus on mythological characters, some that are based on historical accounts and others invented by creative student artists.
“The masks are made of a wire frame covered by papiermache,” McInnis said. “It’s a great opportunity to view the art work and to invite new students to join our next class during the second summer session.”
Wisner added that the exhibit will be presented in an unconventional manner.
“Several of the masks are going to be scattered throughout the library to surprise patrons when they come across them,” Wisner said.
The exhibit will remain on display at the main campus library through Wednesday, June 28. It may be viewed Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the library’s summer hours of operation.
