“Laredo Community College is pleased to present its first percussion camp to the community. The camp was created to offer many learning advantages for all high school percussion students,” LCC camp coordinator and percussion instructor Matthew Adams said.
The camp will be highly interactive, Adams said, noting that students will be able to apply the concepts they learn in camp as they rehearse and perform in different ensembles throughout the week.
The percussion camp faculty will include:
· Evaristo Aguilar- a professor of drum set and percussion at the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas in Tampico, Mexico, he developed a doctorate program in music at a European university.
· Rick Rios- a percussion instructor and assistant director at United High School, he is a graduate of Texas A&M-Kingsville where he served as a section leader and principle percussionist of the A&M Wind Ensemble. He also marched with the Revolution Drum and Bugle Corp. Under his direction the UHS drum line and percussion section have earned numerous awards in marching, solos and ensembles.

Rouse holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Texas.

Adams performs all areas of percussion and has performed in a variety of musical settings. He holds degrees from West Chester University and the University of North Texas.
The camp also will include a special percussion clinic and guest performance by Nick Petrella, educational director for SABIAN and a Yamaha performing artist. He also is a faculty member at Oakland University and stays busy as a freelance musician.
In addition to hosting a clinic, Petrella will be featured in a concert open to the community on Thursday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater. Admission to the concert is free of charge.
The LCC percussion camp will conclude with a final student performance and an awards ceremony on Friday, June 30 at the Martinez Fine Arts Center.
